Quick stop here on our way to the Volcano National Park from Kona. Very windy day so it limited our time here. But the black sand was unique as were the surroundings. Made for some nice pictures. Public bathroom on site. Great pitstop to breakup a long drive. Was only about another 40 minutes to the park from here.

Its been a long 10 days of vacation. THANK GOODNESS for these Turtle Huts! Thank you Barbara!

The unit we were in, #47, was nicely decorated and had many amenities: kitchen (including oven, stove, microwave, dishwasher, dishes, utensils -- plus a small washer/dryer, with detergent helpfully provided), couch and chairs, and a lovely deck with tables and chairs. There was a good queen sized bed in the one bedroom; the pullout full sized couch in the den was mediocre so you should ask in advance which two guests will be sleeping together in the small and not-too-comfortable sofa bed. (That's my only criticism.) Overall, I thought this was charming little townhouse at a fair price and I do recommend it.

Beautiful location on a quiet side of the island. The place is very clean and comfortable. The pool area is beautiful and has grills available for use. It's also directly adjacent to a large golf course and the famous black sands beach. If you stay here, keep in mind that services (gas, food, etc) are a short drive away. There's a market maybe 20 - 30 minutes towards town, but things there close down relatively early. And that's only a few days a week that it is actually open. If you want actual groceries, you'll be driving at least an hour each way. So make sure you bring enough supplies to get you through, especially if you arrive late.

The "Turtle Hut" is a small townhouse in a complex that looked to have about 70 units. The community was clean, the property was lush and well manicured, and the few residents we encountered were mostly couples or families on vacation. This unit is 1/3 mile from an interesting black sand beach; it's a good bit of travel time from there to any other destination of major interest to a tourist, such as the Volcano National Park (30+ minutes) or Hilo (1'15") and there are no nearby restaurants of any great quality.
